Hearing God

Hearing God

Psalm 46:10 (ESV) “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” To be still means to be still in your mind, your body, and your environment.

Hearing God’s voice is a challenge in a noisy world and a noisy soul. God is constantly speaking through his word, his Spirit, and the circumstances he has providentially allowed for us. Like tuning a radio to the right frequency, we need to learn to recognize the Spirit’s voice amidst the static of life. This isn’t about waiting for dramatic supernatural experiences. Hearing God is about developing a sensitive heart that recognizes the Spirit’s guidance for us. When we take time to be still, study his word, and listen to his Spirit, we can recognize God’s voice more clearly.

John 10:27 (ESV) 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

What distractions might be preventing you from hearing God’s voice more clearly in your life?

Father, help me to recognize your voice above all others. Teach me to be still and listen. Give me discernment to understand your guidance today. Amen.
